Volunteer Placement

Our international volunteer program focuses on wildlife conservation, reforestation, and community education efforts. This initiative offers an exceptional opportunity for individuals aged 16 and above who are passionate about wildlife and nature preservation. It is especially ideal for students taking a gap year, those seeking internships, and anyone interested in a meaningful holiday that positively impacts the diverse wildlife and local communities in Africa and Kenya.

The Baboon Project Kenya invites international volunteers to participate in its mission, providing them with the opportunity to educate schoolchildren about the importance of environmental conservation through established environmental clubs in over 200 schools near Lake Nakuru National Park. Participants in these clubs take part in English-language essay competitions that emphasize the significance of nature and environmental conservation, enabling international volunteers to help children improve their English language and writing skills. This program allows volunteers to teach children essential English language skills and writing techniques.

Furthermore, the children engage in art competitions centered on environmental themes, offering another platform for volunteers to share their knowledge of the arts. Additionally, the children participate in folk dance, music, and drama activities focused on environmental conservation and tree planting, creating further opportunities for international volunteers to engage in a cultural exchange experience.

If arriving outside the pickup times, we charge an additional fee for any extra night’s accommodation, and for a private transfer.

Alternatively, if arriving early you could wait at the arrival’s terminal for the pickup time, book accommodation at the airport and meet us during the pickup times or make your own way to the project (we will advise on how to do this).

From the airport to the accommodation, it takes 3.5 hours by car.

All Volunteers will stay at our volunteer house, Sleepway Cottage, situated approximately 1 km from the main area of Lake Nakuru National Park and within a 2-kilometer radius of our project sites. Accommodations are shared, with 2-4 people per room, and amenities include hot showers, bed linen, and free Wi-Fi. We encourage all participants to be environmentally conscious and to use resources, particularly electricity, judiciously. Meals will be provided, and rooms will be cleaned on weekends, but you are expected to maintain cleanliness and organization by tidying up after yourself.

The meals will primarily feature traditional Kenyan cuisine, including vegetables, potatoes, eggs, bread, pancakes (known locally as "chapati"), and a variety of fruits like oranges, bananas, and avocados. During the weekdays, you will receive three meals a day, while on weekends, two meals will be provided.

At the Baboon Project Kenya Conservation Program, no prior experience is required for those wishing to volunteer, only a genuine enthusiasm for  environment and wildlife conservation . Each volunteer will be provided with customized training from a Volunteer Supervisor to help them thrive in their role. While having relevant experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. We are also interested in hearing about any unique skills you may have that could aid our mission. Volunteer opportunities are available year-round for individuals aged 16 and older
