Mr. Simon Gichohi is the CEO and Founder of Baboon Project Kenya, an organization he established in 2020 after leaving a senior role in the Oil and Gas sector. With an MBA and a strong dedication to wildlife conservation, Simon utilizes his corporate experience to lead efforts aimed at protecting endangered species and their environments.
His work emphasizes reducing human-wildlife conflict in areas adjacent to national parks, collaborating with local communities and government bodies to promote wildlife safety.
Through fostering partnerships, Simon addresses vital challenges such as habitat restoration and the reduction of environmental pollutants. He provides ecosystem services at Lake Nakuru National Park by tackling the threat posed by invasive plant species and implementing drought mitigation strategies, including the installation of water troughs, boreholes, and solar-powered water pumps to support both wildlife and park rangers. Additionally, he leads clean-up initiatives to reduce plastic waste in parks. Committed to inspiring future conservationists, Simon has set up wildlife clubs in 50 local schools and, in collaboration with NCBA Bank Group, initiated the Green Schools Project, which has resulted in the planting of over 10,000 seedlings in primary schools across Nakuru County. As a passionate advocate for wildlife and environmental justice, he employs legal avenues to protect natural resources from pollution, recently securing a landmark ruling from the High Court of Kenya that halted the county government's discharge of untreated sewage into Lake Nakuru. His unwavering dedication has significantly advanced the mission of Baboon Project Kenya and strengthened the protection of endangered species and their habitats.
